Elizabeth had a crash on her bike July 30th.
She has a broken clavicle and was knocked out.
...
She was taken to Childrens hospital.
In emergency she was X-rayed and put on a ventilator for a CT scan.
They will keep her sedated over night in the ICU and try to wake her up in the morning (on July 31).
...
They took Elizabeth off the sedative and tried to wake her, but she didn't wake up.
So they scheduled an MRI, which has just been completed, we are waiting to see the doctor for the MRI results.
The doctor this morning said Elizabeth could be asleep until Monday, possibly.
The results of the MRI showed some more brain injuries than the CT scan did yesterday (on July 30).
They are planning to take the breathing tube out since they haven't needed the ventilator.
We are now going to be waiting until she wakes up and go from there.
...
Elizabeth had a good night (of July 31), they took off the neck brace and removed the breathing tube.
Her temperature has come down and her heart rate has slowed.
She did open her eyes a couple times over night, this morning she moved around (both sides, more movement on the left side but still weaker) and tried to speak and did some crying and coughing (I am sure she hurts).
Elizabeth was taken off the IV fluids and morphine this morning (on August 1) after transitioning to the feeding tube over night.
All good signs, looks like she will be moved out of ICU and upstairs
to a regular room later today (on August 1).
Doctors do rounds at 10 or so, we will know more then.
I have been here all night, heading home to sleep and look after animals
...
Elizabeth can't have visitors yet, but soon.
Janet and I have decided to take turns, with Elizabeth in the hospital and the animals at home.
I have the night shift and Janet has days. Janet's sister drove Janet home last night and stayed, tonight Janet was able to drive home.
Elizabeth is sleeping right now, the nurse was just in to brush her teeth and check her vitals.
The bedding had to be changed as the feeding tube had leaked, also cleaned a bit of her hair.
Elizabeth is sleeping again, next up at 10 is some Tylenol.
Elizabeth had a chest X-Ray this morning (on August 1), we have not got the results yet.
Elizabeth was moved out of ICU this morning (on August 1), we have a room upstairs with a sofa/pull out bed, there is a kitchen across the way and a washroom with shower.
Janet and I had a consult with the neurologist this morning (on August 1) he is confident that her motor skills will return to the left side. He showed us the X-Ray/CT scan and MRI from the first 24 hours, the brain stem and spinal cord are good. The CT scan and MRI showed where the brain was hurt when it bounced around, no skull fractures. The neurologist's comments were positive, we will learn more in the coming days.
