Childrens Day 11

Janet and I went to see Sunny Hill, aunt Susan and grand mum came along too. A very nice facility a little closer to home. They have everything that Elizabeth will need, speech therapy, physiotherapy and a school teacher. Elizabeth will be moved to Sunny Hill this Thursday morning.

Today Elizabeth made improvements in so many areas.
  • More speaking, on the phone and to us in the room.
  • She did well enough on the swallow test to be allowed ice cubes, thickened milk/juice and pureed veggies/meat/starch.
  • Being able to tell us she needs the washroom to the point that she is wearing underwear (probably back to a diaper overnight).
  • Going to physiotherapy and walking with bars for supports, she is getting strong enough that she doesn't drag her left foot as much.
  • Using the thumbs up sign when she likes something.
  • Finally Elizabeth also put pen to paper to write out what she wanted.

Some of Elizabeth's comments ("They have underwear" and "Water right now").

Dinner tonight was still through the feeding tube, but Elizabeth was also given a tray of food to try. The peas were good the mashed potatoes were questionable, she didn't try the meat or gravy. Elizabeth was quite irritable tonight and unwilling to communicate she calmed down to slurp up some thickened apple juice and ice cubes, but was back to gathering up a few stuff toys and a pillow and heading for the door. Getting more irritated when we stopped her.

Elizabeth's cousin Samantha drew some need cards to help with the current things Elizabeth likes to say.

Showing dad what I learned today.

Well, the irritation continued, so much so that they will give her a sedative to help her sleep tonight.
