Home Day 78

On Wednesday October 20th, the teacher from Sunny Hill came out to Bradner and talked to Elizabeth's class about what to expect when Elizabeth returns. We had our meeting after school, Elizabeth stayed with a friend and talked to classmates and played for a bit then headed home with them. At the meeting it was decided that Elizabeth could start on the 25th as long as one parent was at the school until 2 staff members could get seizure training.

Back at Bradner.

Elizabeth went back to school on the 25th, she is only there until the first recess. Monday was a good day and Elizabeth declared that she could go full time, now after a few days she has decided that maybe just until lunch will be fine.

All packed up Monday morning.

An Occupational Therapist has be hired, hopefully starting next week. Also looks like we will be able to get some in home schooling while Elizabeth is going to school part time.

Home Day 68

Elizabeth has been home for 10 days now and we are settling into a rhythm. Elizabeth does reading in the morning and math in the afternoon. We have a tutor coming in twice a week and a speech therapist once a week.

One of us gets Elizabeth physically active, lately it has be badminton in the backyard or going out for a walk.

We all went to Sooke for Janet's family reunion on the long weekend. Elizabeth played with her old and young cousins, Grand mum was to see how much Elizabeth had improved.

Quick family portrait before the big group photo.

This weekend I took Elizabeth swimming with some friends, the pool was a lot colder than Sunny Hill but she didn't care and it was hard to get her out.

Wednesday we have a meeting at the school, hopefully Elizabeth can start going to school next week.

Sunny Hill / Home Day 57

Elizabeth is back home again, it wasn't until she was getting ready for bed that she realized that she didn't need the hospital wrist band anymore and cut it off.

Elizabeth got her party this afternoon, complete with an ice cream cake from DQ. Elizabeth was telling people that it was 51 to 49 percent, the ratio of happy to go home and wishing she could stay at Sunny Hill with her new friends.

I know the cake says happy birthday, but is really means congratulations.

Elizabeth's team members from Sunny Hill. Thank You!

Now we move on to getting support for Elizabeth from the community brain injury program and sending Elizabeth back to school, looks like the current target is the last week of October.

Now that the hospital stay is over, thanks to everyone who has been following the blog. I am going to reduce the frequency of my posts to once a week or so, we will see how it goes...

Sunny Hill Day 56

The Team Meeting was today, Elizabeth is not ready to go back to school just yet, but she can come home and will be discharged tomorrow. They will have a party tomorrow for Elizabeth, she asked for an ice cream cake.

Elizabeth came in at the end of the meeting to hand out Scarlet Runner bean seeds and  pouches of Lavender from our garden to all the team members. She also helped Mum make some squares on the weekend that were offered. The chocolate caramel squares were the most popular.

Occupational Therapist, Elizabeth and Speech Therapist

After the meeting we went for a walk out in the sun to the park down the hill. Elizabeth showed Mum what she could do on the play ground and then we all got on the swings.

Uncle Kelly brought dinner tonight, Elizabeth was hungry, she came to visit from recreation (which was music in the gym tonight) and ate a slice of pizza.

Sunny Hill Day 55

I spent the day with Elizabeth, the morning was speech then Physical Therapy which started in the gym, then we took a walk to a nearby playground. Elizabeth was able to play on the monkey bars like before, both arms are strong.

First transition from right to left hand.

Second transition from left to right hand.

I think the wheels were freshly oiled or greased, Elizabeth thought they were at a steeper angle, either way when she grabbed on and they turned quickly but she was able to negotiate her way to the other platform on her first go. She then climbed the wall holding the chain to the slide, a few of the foot/hand holds were missing and she did sway to the right the first time. Then we all went for a swing and back to Sunny Hill for lunch.

After lunch it was school and recreation to play the new board game about shopping in a mall.

This evening aunt Susan and Tom brought dinner, Elizabeth came for a short visit with Matthew.

Sunny Hill Day 54

Back at Sunny Hill, only forgot a few things at home this time. Most of the Therapists are going over there assessments of Elizabeth, I guess so we won't be surprised during the team meeting Wednesday.

They finished building a new play ground at Sunny Hill. They only started a week ago I thought. Elizabeth went down to check it out with Mum and later with me.

The swinging basket.

This is a super stable swing that you can swing back and forth as well as side to side.

The weird spinning angle chair.

I even sat in it, once you take your feet off the ground you start to spin and it seemed to naturally speed up, until Elizabeth told me that when you fold your legs and arms in it gets faster, which I had done when I took my feet off the ground.

Sunny Hill / Home Day 53

Elizabeth came with me and walked down the road to the neighbours to deliver some eggs and have a quick visit, the sun hadn't come out yet but it was still pleasant. Elizabeth did a come of sprints to give her legs some more exercise.

Elizabeth went grocery shopping with Mum and out to get some new running shoes with better ankle support.

Otherwise Elizabeth spent most of the day inside playing and helping Mum with her baking.

Elizabeth's horse stable.

We all went back into Sunny Hill after dinner tonight, Mum stayed with her, I switch up tomorrow afternoon.

Home Day 52

Elizabeth had a quite day at home, deciding to stay home instead of going out with me or Mum when we ran errands.

Elizabeth took Flower out to puppy class in the backyard in the morning, helped Mum with chores in the afternoon and made some pudding, thawed some Strawberries and Blackberries for our dessert.

She had a little trouble going to sleep tonight, but that was likely because of the nap she took after lunch.

Home Day 51

We had a sunny and warm day here, Elizabeth had a planned play date in the morning with Annika.

Mitchell, Elizabeth and Annika

In the afternoon, Elizabeth went across the road to play with Layne and Levi.

Picking Lavender with Mum

This evening after dinner Elizabeth and Mum went into Langley to do some clothes and grocery shopping. It was only 3 stores, but it was a bit to much and Elizabeth had a little trouble settling down to go to sleep.
